Darwin's temperature data changed by BoM
interested readers can get some more nuts ’n bolts about ACORN 2.
TOP: Dilbert Cartoon used with permission.

Chris Gillham has compared the RAW data for Darwin with the manipulated data. A century apart the raw data show a cooling of 0.09ºC whereas the  adjusted data show 1.01ºC and 1.20ºC warming.

Chris on his waclimate site writes:

ACORN 2 influence on Australian temperature trends

The Bureau of Meteorology has again rewritten Australia's temperature history with the release of an update to its homogenised dataset that significantly increases the rate of climate warming since 1910.

The rewritten dataset increases Australia's per decade rate of warming by 23% and provides examples of algorithm miscalculations such as Carnarvon on the west coast having Australia's hottest ever daytime temperature at 51C.

In late 2018 the BoM provided access to the daily temperatures calculated by ACORN 2 (Australian Climate Observations Reference Network - Surface Air Temperatures), which is a revision of the bureau's ACORN 1 dataset of homogenised or adjusted raw temperatures at 112 Australian weather stations dating back to 1910.

It is assumed that ACORN 2 will replace the ACORN 1 dataset (introduced in 2012) as the historic reference used for comparison of modern temperatures. These are usually presented to the public as temperature anomalies compared to a 1961-90 baseline at each weather station.

The revision poses questions about the validity of the ACORN 1 temperature adjustments that for seven years (2012-2019) have inaccurately calculated Australia's warming trend since 1910. The revision's consequent widespread and significant historic temperature alterations pose questions about the validity of ACORN 2 itself.

It's worth noting examples of these alterations that have ACORN 1 listing Albany as having Australia's hottest ever day in 1933 (51.2C vs 44.8C originally), superseded by ACORN 2 which lists Carnarvon as having Australia's hottest ever day in 1953 (51.0C vs 47.7C originally).

Note: Researcher Ken Stewart has closely analysed ACORN 1 and ACORN 2 daily plots to determine trends, daily adjustments, records, diurnal temperature range, minima greater than maxima and the square wave phenomenon at all West Australian ACORN stations (link) and will be similarly analysing all Australian states and territories.

Using Too Much Toilet Paper Heating Planet!!!

Can you believe this Climate Retarded Alarmist Propaganda?

Americans use more toilet paper than anyone else in the world, helping destroy the habitats of native people who live where it is sourced and contributing to global warming, a research study said on Wednesday.
U.S. consumers use roughly three rolls of toilet paper a week, accounting for a fifth of the world's tissue consumption, according to the report by environmental groups and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

The forest plays a key role in combating global warming because it absorbs and stores carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gas that contributes to it, the group said.
I would love to see their proof that carbon dioxide is the greenhouse gas contributing to global warming. But there isn't any.

We know that the rise in CO2 follows the rise in temperature. (See Dr Tim Ball on WUWT)

As Kenneth Richard writes (on NoTricksZone)

Scientists Find Sun-Driven Temperature Changes Led CO2 Changes By 1300-6500 Years In The Ancient Past

It has long been established in the scientific literature (and affirmed by the IPCC) that CO2 concentration changes followed Antarctic temperature changes by about 600 to 1000 years during glacial-interglacial transitions throughout the last ~800,000 years (Fischer et al., 1999Monnin et al., 2001Caillon et al., 2003Stott et al., 2007Kawamura et al., 2007).
In contrast, two new papers (Koutavas et alUemura et alcite evidence that the timing of the lagged CO2 response to temperature changes may have ranged between 1300 and 6500 years in some cases.  It would appear that a millennial-scale lagged response to temperature undermines the claim that CO2 concentration changes were a driver of climate in the ancient past.
Again I ask -Where is the alarmists proof that carbon dioxide is the greenhouse gas contributing to global warming?

Changes to Darwin’s Climate History are Not Logical

Changes to Darwin’s Climate History are Not Logical

THE hubris of the Australian Bureau of Meteorology is on full display with its most recent remodelling of the historic temperature record for Darwin. The Bureau has further dramatically increased the rate of global warming at Darwin by further artificially lowering historic temperatures.
This begins by shortening the historical temperature record so that it begins just after the very hot years of the Federation drought. Then by changing the daily values: that is changing the observed measured temperatures to something else.
For example, on 1st January 1910, the maximum temperature recorded at the Darwin post office was 34.2ºC.
A few years ago, the Bureau changed this to 33.8ºC, cooling the recorded temperature by 0.4 degrees. In its most recent re-revision of Darwin’s climate history the temperature on this day has been further reduced and is now just 32.8.
The daily maximum temperatures for early 1910 as shown in the three different datasets for Darwin
Environmental reporter for the Australian newspaper, Graham Lloyd, asked the Bureau why it had made such changes earlier in the week. A spokesperson is quoted in The Weekend Australian as follows:
“For the case of Darwin, a downward adjustment to older records is applied to account for differences between the older sites and the current site, and difference¬s between older thermometers and the current automated sensor.
“In other words, the adjustments estimate what historical temperatures would look like if they were recorded with today’s equipment at the current site.”
Yet this is a version of exactly the same reason given by the Bureau just six years ago for reducing the temperature on 1 January 1910 by ‘only’ 0.4 degrees.
Neither the equipment, nor the site has changed since ACORN-SAT Version 1 was published in 2012.
Yet another 1 degree has been shaven from the historical temperature record!
To be clear, the weather station has been at the airport since February 1941, and an automatic weather station was installed on 1 October 1990. A Stevenson screen was first installed at the post office site in 1894 and has always been used at the airport site.
So, why was the temperature dropped down by a further one degree for 1 January 1910 in the most recent revision – undertaken just a few months ago? There is no logical or reasonable explanation.
Apparently, at the Bureau, the future is certain and the past can be continually changed – history can be continually revised.
When the daily values are added-up, and compared between versions as annual mean maximum temperatures we see the magnitude of the change – and its effect on temperature trends.
The warming trend of 1.3 degrees C per 100 years in ACORN V1 has been changed to 1.8 degrees C per 100 years in Version 2. The annual average maximum temperature for 1942, as one example, has been reduced by 0.5 degrees.
The extent of global warming increases from 1.3 degrees Celsius per 100 years to 1.8 degrees Celsius in the latest revisions by the Bureau to Australia’s temperature history.
In the maximum temperature record as actually measured at Darwin from 1895 to the present — and taking into consideration the move from the airport to the post office –- there is no warming trend in the Darwin temperature record. This is consistent with other locations in northern Australia with long high-quality records, for example Richmond in north western Queensland.
Annual mean maximum temperatures as measured at Richmond, Qld, charted with a minimally homogenized series for Darwin that combines the post office and airport series into one continuous temperature series making adjustments only for the move to the airport.
Mean maximum annual temperatures as measured at the Darwin Post Office and airport shown with the new remodeled ACORN-SAT Version 2, which is the new official record for Australia.
What the Bureau has done to the historical temperature record for Darwin is indefensible. The Bureau has artificially shortened and cooled Darwin’s climate history to make it consistent with the theory of human-caused global warming.

Energy & Environmental Newsletter: February 11, 2019

 February 11, 2019

The Alliance for Wise Energy Decisions (AWED) is an informal coalition of individuals and organizations interested in improving national, state, and local energy and environmental policies. Our premise is that technical matters like these should be addressed by using Real Science (please consult for more information).
A key element of AWED’s efforts is public education. Towards that end, every three weeks we put together a newsletter to balance what is found in the mainstream media about energy and the environment. We appreciate MasterResource for their assistance in publishing this information.
