Credibility of the Climate Institute in question.

Australia's Carbon tax compared with UK, Japan & Sth Korea.

As alarmists try to link isolated climate events to man-made global warming/climate change/climate disruption/ some other euphanism for "we want to control and then reduce the world's population" movement, some alarmists are desperately trying to ramp up the alarmism.

Take the latest piece by the Climate Institute's CEO John Connor published by "The Climate Spectator" - which should truthfully be called "The Climate Activist."

Connor starts:
As climate physics move from risks to record breaking realities of heat and floods....
Funny that these alarmists try to cherry-pick events and not look at long term or global patterns.

Realities of Heat:

I think he is talking about  a few warm days in January in Eastern Australia. As Piers Akerman (via Watkins Tench) points out:
But I wonder if any of these people actually knew that Sydney’s so-called ‘record hot day’ on Tuesday 8th Jan this year, that had them screaming ‘Global Warming’, was actually COOLER than the weather experienced by the convicts of the First Fleet in Sydney way back in the summer of 1790/91?

For while the mercury peaked at 42.3 C last Tuesday at Observatory Hill in Sydney – more than 222 years ago at 1.00pm on the 27th Dec 1790 (measured at a location just stones-throw from Observatory Hill) the mercury hit 108.5 F (42.5 C) before peaking at 109 F (42.8 C) at 2.20pm.

The extreme heat of Sydney’s summer of 1790/91 is detailed by Watkins Tench (1758 –1833) in his book ‘A Complete Account of the Settlement at Port Jackson’ published in 1793. (Available to download from the internet for free).
And Floods have been a part of Australian life forever. Remember our National Treasure Dorothea Mackellar's My Country:
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.

Back to Mr Connor's flawed piece:
Warming oceans and atmospheres have loaded the dice for warmer, wilder and wetter weather events.
Joanne Nova answers the warming oceans fallacy (link) with a graph by Douglass and Knox, 2010, recording the data from the Argo buoys. The UK Met Office (link) and the Hadley Climate Research Unit (link) have shown that there has been no warming atmospheres for 16 years.
HadCRU4 - Graph Climate4You.

Next, Mr Connor writes:
Australia’s carbon price of $23 (€18) comes in near the bottom of the list of 34 countries – well below Japan, South Korea and the UK, among others.
Really, Mr Connor?  The perhaps you should enlighten SBS  who have published: Factbox: Carbon Taxes around the World.     See Graph at top of article.

Japan? In April 2012, Japan legislated for a carbon tax of approximately ¥289 per tonne ($A3.30) by increasing existing taxes on fossil fuels (coal and LPG/LNG) with effect from 1 October 2012.

South Korea?  South Korea at present has NO CARBON TAX, having passed legislation for an emissions trading scheme to start from 1 January 2015.

The UK? The United Kingdom participates in the European Union emissions trading scheme and is covered by European Union policies and measures.

So the European Union price is? (link)
Last week, carbon permits on the seven-year-old European Union market plummeted to a new low of about €2.80 ($3.60), before recovering to just below €5.

  1. John Connor and his cohorts can only get attention by blatantly lying about the facts. The problem we face is that the ignorant media and even more ignorant 99% of the population believe what they say.

  2. It is a clear fact, not openly stated by our ABC et al, that Mr. Connor is a lawyer. He has zero scientific credentials yet is feted by various media outlets (ABC) as being some sort of touchstone of climate science veracity. His organisation launched the Asset owners Disclosure Project (AODP) in 2008. With it the "Institoot" asked the world's top 1,000 mutual funds to disclose the level of investment carried in "sustainable" enterprises such as..surprise, surprise renewable energy projects, especially wind farms.
The rent seekers who establish these wind farms are pretty well able to charge what they like to the relative State authorities as these Government Trading Enterprises look to meet the MREP legislated 20% renewables by 2020.So we now have superannuation funds investing in projects that, by their very existence, increase the costs of living for their members.
Here in WA we are isolated from the east coast interconnected grid. It is therefore easier to identify reasons behind recent, steep, tariff increases.
For example WE in WA have a shiny new 200+MW wind farm established near the mid western town of Merredin on what was 110 Ha of farmland. The proud owners of this eyesore have also just commissioned an 80 MW diesel generator as back up for when the "wind don't blow"!
Meanwhile, back at Collie, there are coal fired power stations hanging about waiting for the call fire up & meet the demand shortfall of the green alternative.
    This is pure madness.

  3. Err, Geoff...I think you mean fallacy.

    1. Good point...Changed too Credibility -NOT, then retitled Credibility in question.

      Thanks David.
