120 Years Of Climate Scares - 70s Ice age scare

North West Passage
Encyc Britannica
A sceptical friend has prepared this list.

1845 – The whole of Sir John Franklin’s expedition to find the NW Passage died and their ships were crushed by the ice near Baffin Island

1909-1910 – Amundsen sailed an ice free NW Passage

1922 – The Arctic is warming and fishermen are catching species that have never been seen there before.

1970 – Kenneth Field “The world is cooling and global temperatures could drop by up to 11ºC  that would freeze the North Atlantic for 4- months of the year within 20-years …”

  1. Edward Parry in his journey of 1818-1820 almost got through to the Beaufort Sea. He was abeam Banks Island, which is the last island in the West Arctic.

The Canadians went through the North West passage, 3 times, in the 1940,s.

An oil tanker traversed the passage in the mid 1960,s

In modern times, Roald Amundsen was first in 1903-06.

    1. Well, I have done significant research re: Global Warming/Climate Change and I have found that Mother Earth goes through 'natural changes' from freezing to warming for it's [Mother Earth's] billions of years of it's existence. Mother Earth has been going through these normal/natural cycles of warming and freezing well before the 'arrival' of the 'human species,' ergo the human species was not and is not responsible for either climate change or so called global warming. Climate Change is a normal/natural phenomenon of nature. Some of today's human caused pollution is insignificant in the overall picture to the cause of climate changes. Volcanoes, for example, contribute more to pollution and climate disruptions than almost any other source of climate change. And, even volcano eruptions are, although natural occurrences, are not a long sustaining source of climate change. Earth's natural cycles of warming and freezing are the result of many conditions well beyond the control of the human species and are essentially connected to many phenomenon including our sun's normal spewing of hot gases that reach Mother Earth and affecting the cycles of warming and cooling/freezing. This, obviously, is just a very brief explanation, if you will, and there is a much thorough explanation of the why's and why not's of the warming and freezing cycles we experience from time to time.

      Sincerely,
Chief Engineer for Space Transportation Systems (retired)
