James Hansen, Political Activist retires to become a Political Activist.

Arrested Again.
James Hansen is retiring from NASA to become a political activist. Methinks he has been a political activist for years.

From the New York Times:
James E. Hansen, the climate scientist who issued the clearest warning of the 20th century about the dangers of global warming, will retire from NASA this week, giving himself more freedom to pursue political and legal efforts to limit greenhouse gases. At the same time, retirement will allow Dr. Hansen to press his cause in court. He plans to take a more active role in lawsuits challenging the federal and state governments over their failure to limit emissions, for instance, as well as in fighting the development in Canada of a particularly dirty form of oil extracted from tar sands.
“As a government employee, you can’t testify against the government,” he said in an interview.
When testifying TO the government, The Times article notes:

Around the time Dr. Hansen switched his research focus, in the 1970s, a sharp rise in global temperatures began. He labored in obscurity over the next decade, but on a blistering June day in 1988 he was called before a Congressional committee and testified that human-induced global warming had begun.

The truth was, as part of the alarmists’ plan, the air conditioner  actually had just been turned off and the windows left open (From US Senate report LINK)
Frontline interviewed Gore’s colleague, then-Sen. Tim Wirth (now running Ted Turner’s UN Foundation). Comforted by the friendly nature of the PBS program, Wirth freely admitted the clever scheming that went into getting the dramatic shot of scientist James Hansen mopping his brow amid a sweaty press corps. An admiring Frontline termed this “Stagecraft.”
TIMOTHY WIRTH: We called the Weather Bureau and found out what historically was the hottest day of the summer. Well, it was June 6th or June 9th or whatever it was. So we scheduled the hearing that day, and bingo, it was the hottest day on record in Washington, or close to it. DEBORAH AMOS: [on camera] Did you also alter the temperature in the hearing room that day?
TIMOTHY WIRTH: What we did is that we went in the night before and opened all the windows, I will admit, right, so that the air conditioning wasn't working inside the room. And so when the- when the hearing occurred, there was not only bliss, which is television cameras and double figures, but it was really hot.

Honestly, is this the action of hoest people?

As a Government employee he shouldn't have taken part in illegal protest activity. Wikipedia lists (link)
  • On June 23, 2009, James Hansen, along with 30 other protesters including actress Daryl Hannah, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of obstructing police and impeding traffic, during a protest against mountaintop removal mining in Raleigh County, West Virginia.
  • Hansen and about 100 other people were arrested in September 2010 in front of the White House in Washington, DC. The group was seeking a ban on mountaintop removal or surface mining.
  • Hansen and 1251 other activists were arrested in August and September 2011, at another demonstration in front of the White House.

His most recent arrest was just over a month ago.
Climate scientist James Hansen was arrested today outside the White House while protesting the proposed construction of the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline. Some 48 activists, including Hansen, actress Daryl Hannah, executive director of the Sierra Club Michael Brune, Bill McKibben, co-founder of the grassroots climate group 350.org, and civil rights activist Julian Bond, practiced civil disobedience in front of the White House. (Source Live Science)
Will Hansen get arrested more, now that he has more time to be politically active?

Does Mr Hansen know that a recent peer-reviewed paper found that there is nothing unusual, unnatural or unprecedented about our planet's current level of warmth.

To quote Dr Gordon Fulks, an astrophysicist with the same qualifications as James Hansen:
We should all be thankful that Hansen is finally vacating a position at NASA that he should have been fired from long ago.  If he wanted to be a politician, he should have quit NASA and run for office rather than run NASA GISS into the ground with his doctored data and politicized science.
