Is the Arctic "rooned."

Patrick Joseph Hartigan, writing in 1890 as Australian bush poet John O'Brien, when the country was in the grip of drought, wrote "Said Hanrahan."

"If we don't get three inches, man,
Or four to break this drought,
We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan,"
Before the year is out."
And the doomsayers have continued to this day.

In 2007 the BBC predicted:

Arctic summers ice-free 'by 2013'

Scientists in the US have presented one of the most dramatic forecasts yet for the disappearance of Arctic sea ice.Their latest modelling studies indicate northern polar waters could be ice-free in summers within just 5-6 years.

A month ago, the EU news site  published

Arctic Sea ice loss will cause ‘pronounced’ future melt

Sea ice surface cover in the Arctic region plunged to a new record low of 24% last year, some 50% less than climate scientists at the UN’s Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) had predicted.

"The arctic's all a meltin',
as this warming gets about,
We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan,

"Before the year is out."

But wait! What a difference a month made. From the Toronto Post, we read:

Arctic Ice Growth Blows Away All Records

Arctic ice area has increased by 10.5 million km^2 since mid-September 2012. (See graph above)
